I’ve always wanted to teach my dog to do chores. You know, vacuum the house, cook dinner, and make the bed all before I get home. We all know that’s never going to happen, but I have recently discovered that strapping a pack on my dog is far more useful than I could have imagined. Plus, I think it makes her feel special, and that makes me happy. So here’s what I’ve gathered about the Approach Pack by Ruffwear.
Pack Space: There is one large and one small compartment on each side of the pack. The large compartment is quite spacious. I use the large compartment to store things like my hammock, lunch, water bottles, dog leash, dog food, etc. In the smaller pockets I put my keys, wallet, phone, and other smaller items that I don’t want getting mixed up in the big pocket. Overall I am really impressed with how much you can stuff in this pack. One thing is, I have an 80-pound dog so she can carry a fairly large load. If your pup is smaller the pack sizes are proportional and carry less.
Pack Colors: This particular pack comes in blue and orange.
What It’s Good For: I love this pack for camping. You can use it to carry all of the fun things you otherwise would not have room for in your backpack. You can use your imagination here. On the other hand, if you’re taking your dog on a backpacking trip its great for carrying everything he or she needs like food, water, sleeping pad, bowl, etc.
This pack is also great for trips to the farmers market, walks around town, and picnics. You never know when you’ll need some extra storage space. Your pup wont be able to reach the storage compartments so you can rest assured that your food will be safe.
Durability: So far it looks brand new and my pup is not easy on the pack. She often forgets she has it on, and bumps into things.
Conclusion: If you go on camping or climbing trips with your dog then I would 100% recommend getting a pack. If you just want to take your pup to the farmers market once a week I would still recommend it, but maybe wait until its on sale. Either way, it makes your dog look extra cute, and who doesn’t want that?
